TaxiSharing

Finds compatible journeys using overlapping travel times and pickup/drop-off locations to allow matched students to coordinate their journey. In addition, it can alert users when a suitable ride becomes available.

Challenges

Designed a solution to help students reduce transport costs in regions where ride-hailing services were unavailable. The application needed to match users based on compatible travel windows and pickup/drop-off locations while providing a simple way to coordinate shared journeys.

My Contributions

  • Designed and built the cross-platform prototype with Cordova (PhoneGap).
  • Implemented ride matching based on travel time windows and pickup/drop-off locations.
  • Built in-app messaging and notification flows for matched users.
  • Integrated a RESTful backend hosted on OpenStack for authentication and ride data management.

Outcome

Delivered a functional end-to-end proof of concept demonstrating ride matching, user authentication, notifications, and communication between passengers. The project explored solving a genuine student transport problem while showcasing early experience with mobile application architecture and backend integration.
